International Women’s Day is tomorrow, Thursday, March 8th. I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge this day since we, at Terra & Co., are all about empowering women.
You may be asking, what exactly is International Women’s Day? International Women’s Day was started in 1911 by women in the early 1900’s that were fighting for every women’s right to vote, and thank goodness they did as we enjoy that to this day. They encouraged and fought for change!
This year, International Women’s Day (https://www.internationalwomensday.com) has identified the primary campaign theme to be gender parity and have created the hashtag #PressforProgress. International Women’s Day is pressing for progress because the World Economic Forum’s 2017 Global Gender Gap Report found that gender parity is over 200 years away. Yes, you heard me… OVER 200 years away! It is up to each and every one of us to press for progress and create the change that we want! #PressforProgress is a call to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.
International Women’s Day is not country, group or organization specific. The day belongs to all groups collectively everywhere! Gloria Steinem, world-renowned feminist, journalist and activist once explained, “The story of women’s struggle for equality belongs to no single feminist nor to any one organization, but to the collective efforts of all who care about human rights.”
It is so important that all of us fight for change and commit to helping each other, women and girls from all over, to achieve their ambitions and challenge bias whether conscious or unconscious. From awareness to creating action, International Women’s Day is rallying for your support.
If you would like to contribute and identify how you will specifically #PressforProgress, follow this link to the International Women’s Day Website’s call to action - https://www.internationalwomensday.com/PressforProgress - of course filling this out is not required, it is simply an option for you.
Even after International Women's Day passes, we need to keep this struggle front and center and remember to support each other. We are all sisters!
What can you do to #PressforProgress and affect change?
