Aloe vera is an excellent remedy for bad breath caused by acid indigestion, while it also supports your overall oral health.

Why is aloe vera good for bad breath?

The aloe vera plant is well-known for its healing properties when applied topically to burn injuries, but it can also be consumed for a variety of health purposes. In particular, it helps fight bad breath when used regularly. To understand how aloe vera works, it’s helpful to have a basic understanding of how gastric reflux causes bad breath.

Normally, the lower esophageal sphincter (LES) acts like a valve or a barrier between the stomach and the esophagus. It opens to allow food and liquids to enter the stomach and then closes to prevent stomach acid from traveling up the esophagus. If the LES is malfunctioning, stomach acid can travel up the pipe and enter the back of the throat. As you might imagine, this can cause an unpleasant taste in the mouth—and yes, bad breath.

Aloe vera helps people with gastric reflux by acting as an anti-inflammatory, improving digestion, and reducing stomach acid production. In addition to these benefits, it fights bacteria in the mouth-- contributing to bad breath.

How should I use aloe vera to treat bad breath?

Aloe vera is a succulent plant with stalks that feature a juicy, gel-like interior. If you want to use your own aloe vera plants, you can peel the “skin” away to reveal the interior. However, be careful not to use any of the aloin. it is a yellowish-brown substance present in the interior. It is toxic and irritating to the gastrointestinal system. If ingested, it may cause abdominal cramps and diarrhea. You can avoid this problem by purchasing commercially available aloe vera juice.

You can drink about a quarter-cup of aloe vera juice daily to combat bad breath. Alternatively, dissolve the same amount in water and drink it. If you find the taste unpleasant, consider mixing it with apple juice instead. You may want to consult with your doctor before trying aloe vera juice or gel. It can interact with certain medications, including those used to treat diabetes.

I was having the problem of bad breath. I tried so many medicines, cleaned the teethes, and used mouth fresh. But the problem was still there. Then my wife told me that if you eat fresh aloe vera in the morning in empty stomach may help to come out of this problem. Then I started to eat fresh aloe vera (2 inch length and peel the outer greenish skin) in the morning. No it is almost 25 days used and I found that there is no bad breath now.
